The recent report on apparently random gun violence here in Wallingford (and I consider neighborhood discharges to be gun violence whether they hit anything or not) led me to consider crime in our area. The editors here at Wallyhood suggested a story idea to our stable of writers on crime near Gasworks Park, as we’ve noted an infrequent, but fairly steady, reporting of primarily property crime (break-ins and thefts) around that location. But what about for the neighborhood as a whole? How do we compare to the rest of the city?

The budget challenges facing Seattle Public Schools are widely recognized, but here in Wallingford, the implications hit particularly close to home — for my family and for many others at John Stanford School, which is not scheduled for closure, but still rumored to be considered for significant change. Students have been bracing for impact as the district initially proposed, then reversed, plans to close 21 schools, ultimately narrowing it down to a potential four “under-enrolled schools” (and leaving the wildly underfunded budget issues still largely unsolved). Attend a crucial public information meeting on zoning changes in Wallingford and around the city.  Tuesday, November 19^th at Magnuson Park, Hanger 30 from 5:30-7:30 for District 4.

The Wallingford Community Council WallingfordCC.org, has been presenting information about the city’s process including zoning changes for the 2044 Comprehensive Plan. WCC has hosted two informational meetings. It is a heavy lift to educate residents about the proposed zoning changes before the end of the public comment period on December 20^th. With that in mind, WCC has asked to share information here through Wallyhood.
